[VLAN] problem with basic topology

Thanks for your replies.
PWLA8391GT is a vlan-aware card and eth0 is up. I'll test with time
delay and see if it solves the problem. Actually box B which seems to
have no problem(transmitting and receiving) has a 533 MHz Via Eden CPU
while box A has a Amd Athlon 64 X2 3800+ CPU. Box A should definitely
execute its initscript much faster than box B.
I tried to introduce a sleep statement just after 'vconfig
set_name_type VLAN_PLUS_VID_NO_PAD' on box A and B. Same problem. Also
tried to add 'sleep 1' on a line below every statement. No go. Cant
find anything strange in dmesg either.
More ideas?
